A fundraiser and a competition! Restaurants, cafes, caterers face off in "Rockabilly Chili" event

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- It's a fundraiser and a competition that pits more than 50 Milwaukee restaurants, cafes and caterers against one another to determine the city's best chili! 91.7 WMSE's 13th annual Rockabilly Chili Fundraiser took place Sunday, March 1st at MSOE's Kern Center on N. Broadway.

Awards were given to winners in five categories: best meat chili, best vegetarian chili, most unique chili, best heat, and best vendor display/presentation.

This year, chili was served up by a combination of six Milwaukee Fire Department firehouses and operations centers, and the following vendors took part:

Bavette, Beans and Barley, Blue Jacket Bar, Blue’s Egg, Braise Restaurant & Culinary School, Brewcity Bruisers / Balzac Wine Bar, Brewed Cafe, Cafe LuLu, Centro Cafe, Chancery Restaurant & Pub, Chef Paz Restaurant, City Lounge, Classic Slice, G-Daddy’s BBC, Good Harvest Market, Hector’s: A Mexican Restaurant, Iron Horse Hotel, Matty’s Bar, Maxie’s, McBob’s, Metro Market: Van Buren, Miller Time Pub & Grill, Milwaukee Ale House, MSOE Food Service, The Old German Beer Hall, Outpost Natural Foods, Palomino, Red Rock Saloon, Redbar, Riverwest Co-Op Cafe, SALA, Saz’s State House, Smoke Shack, St. Francis Brewery & Restaurant, Stack’d, Story Hill BKC, Stubby’s Gastrogrub & Beer Bar, The Bay, The Knick, The Soup House, The Wicked Hop, Troubadour Bakery, Two Bucks Food & Spirit, Whole Foods Market Milwaukee

"You get to try chili from restaurants all around the city, a bunch of differenet varieties -- whether it's vegetarian or meat, different styles and heats, so you can get together and raise money for the radio station as well as with us here with the Fire Department," Schuyler Belott with the Milwaukee Fire Department said.

The chili cookoff is a fundraiser for several Milwaukee-area charities.
