39th and Burleigh arson, Milwaukee group home damaged

Two buildings, including a group home, were involved in a fire on Milwaukee's north side Wednesday morning, Feb. 15. The fire is being investigated as arson. 

According to the fire department, the initial fire was initially reported at an abandoned building near 39th and Burleigh around 11:25 a.m. Upon arrival, firefighters noted the fire had spread to a neighboring building, the group home.

MFD said firefighters searched both buildings three times and found no one trapped inside. There was one caretaker and five adults at the group home, all of whom got out without injury. However, two firefighters were hurt.

Both buildings were significantly damaged. MFD has not yet determined the fire's cause or origin. 

We Energies was called to shut off gas and electric at the scene.

No arrests have been made.
