19-year-old Milwaukee man involved in high-speed pursuit in Fond du Lac

FOND DU LAC -- Fond du Lac County Sheriff's deputies were involved in a high-speed pursuit on I-41 southbound with a stolen vehicle Saturday morning, December 26th. Officials say the stolen vehicle had previously been involved in a pursuit in Winnebago County.

Officials say at approximately 10:50 a.m., a Wisconsin State Patrol trooper observed the vehicle, driven by a 19-year-old Milwaukee man, passing vehicles in the right and left shoulders at high rates of speed. The trooper was able to report the vehicles location to the sheriff's deputies.

A Fond du Lac County Sheriff's deputy witnessed the vehicle traveling southbound on I-41 near County Highway N, at 97 m.p.h. -- and again passing vehicles on the shoulder.

The deputy initiated a traffic stop but the vehicle failed to stop.

Authorities say the pursuit continued southbound on I-41, passing vehicles on the right and left shoulders -- and traveling at a high rate of speed.

Just south of Fond du Lac, stop sticks were set up in an attempt to deflate the tires of the vehicle being pursued.

Officials say the man was driving on the left shoulder and made a quick maneuver to the right, lost control and fled on foot. The 19-year-old Milwaukee man was taken into custody approximately 3/4 of a mile away by sheriff's deputies and Wisconsin State Patrol troopers.

The driver is being held in the Fond du Lac County Jail on charges related to this incident.
