DOT installs high friction surface treatment on portion of Holy Hill Road

WASHINGTON COUNTY --  Crews with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation on Thursday, June 2nd began installation of a high friction surface treatment (HFST) on WIS 167 (Holy Hill Road) in Washington County.The approximate project limits are from Friess Lake Road to a half-mile east of Friess Lake Drive.According to a release from the DOT, crashes in that area are well above the statewide average.

Southwest flight from Michigan to Colorado makes unscheduled landing in Milwaukee

MILWAUKEE -- Officials with General Mitchell International Airport tell FOX6 News a Southwest Boeing 737 airplane made an unscheduled landing at the airport on Monday afternoon, May 30th around 4:20 p.m.Southwest Airlines officials say maintenance employees discovered a small, non-safety related hose had become loose and caused a faint, unfamiliar odor.

Highway 16 EB reopens in Pewaukee after repairs made to buckling pavement

PEWAUKEE -- Officials on Monday afternoon, May 30th shut down Highway 16 eastbound between Main Street and I-94 in Pewaukee due to pavement buckling issues that needed to be addressed immediately.As of 5:00 p.m., FOX6 News was told the roadway would be shut down for the next three to four hours.The roadway reopened around 8:00 p.m.

Plane returns to Mitchell Airport after takeoff due to mechanical issue

MILWAUKEE -- Officials with General Mitchell International Airport say a plane had to return to the airport on Thursday evening, May 26th after experiencing some sort of mechanical problem.The Cessna Citation was able to land safely at the airport.The landing did not disrupt airport operations.

Traffic backed up for miles due to closure of ramp on 94 WB to Hwy 16 after road buckled

WAUKESHA COUNTY -- Traffic was backed up for miles Tuesday afternoon, May 24th as WisDOT officials shut down the exit ramp from I-94WB to Highway 16 in Waukesha County.This, after pavement on the ramp buckled.It's unclear what caused the buckling.The scene has since been cleared, and the ramp has reopened.

Hitting the road this Memorial Day weekend? Construction work on most projects will be suspended

MILWAUKEE -- Construction work on most major highway projects throughout the state will be suspended during the three-day Memorial Day weekend to help travelers reach their destination safely and efficiently, according to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT).DOT officials said in a release issued to FOX6 News that most construction in highway work zones will stop by noon on Friday, May 27, and will not resume until 6 a.m. on Tuesday, May 31.Peak travel times for the Memorial Day weekend are expected to be from noon until 8 p.m. on both Friday, May 27, and Monday, May 30.“Although most lanes through work zones will be open to handle the heavy holiday traffic, drivers may still encounter narrow lanes, lane shifts and rough pavement.

OZAUKEE COUNTY -- Officials with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation say all lanes were temporarily blocked on I-43 SB at County C (Pioneer Road) on Monday afternoon, May 23rd as a result of a fatal crash.It happened shortly before 2:30 p.m. and involved a single vehicle.An initial investigation has revealed a Milwaukee man was driving a Chevrolet Trailblazer on I-43 northbound, north of Mequon Road in Mequon when, witnesses reported, the vehicle's tire blew -- causing the driver to lose control of his vehicle.

Video: Semi drivers come to aid of man who suffered medical emergency on I-94 in Kenosha

KENOSHA -- FOX6 News has obtained dramatic new video along with the 911 calls associated with a crash that happened in Kenosha on April 23rd.Officials with the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department tell FOX6 News a 52-year-old Illinois man was pronounced dead at the hospital after he apparently suffered some sort of medical emergency while driving on Saturday morning, April 23rd.Around 5:45 a.m., deputies were dispatched to the northbound lanes of I-94 — for a report of a driver who was continually striking the wall.

$35K reward offered in shooting of Za'layia Jenkins: "To those who took her life, we will catch you"

MILWAUKEE -- Officials with the Milwaukee Police Department hope that two rewards -- one offered by Attorney Michael Hupy and one offered by the FBI will lead to an arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the shooting of Za'layia Jenkins.The nine-year-old girl, who would have turned 10 years old on Tuesday, May 17th was "legally pronounced dead/brain dead" at 5:00 p.m. on Monday, May 16th, according to the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office."MPD was notified by the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office that the hospital had notified them that Za'layia was in a condition of brain death -- essentially, she had expired," MPD Captain Aaron Raap said Tuesday.Za'layia's cousin told FOX6 News she remains on life support.
