MILWAUKEE -- The Marquette Golden Eagles are in the Sweet 16, and although few Marquette students will follow the team to Phoenix, many were on hand to show support Tuesday during a send-off celebration.One year ago, Marquette was an 11-seed that upset its way out of the first weekend of the NCAA March Madness Tournament.

MU men's basketball team gets sweet send-off Tuesday
MILWAUKEE -- The Marquette Golden Eagles men's basketball team will get a sweet send-off on Tuesday -- as the team heads to Phoenix for the next round of the NCAA tournament.The Marquette campus, long with the band, cheerleaders and Golden Eagle mascot, will gather at the Al McGuire Center (770 N. 12th St.) at 1:30 p.m.The Golden Eagles will take on Florida at 9:17 p.m. CDT on Thursday, March 22nd.On Thursday, the Union Sports Annex, 729 N. 16th St., will open at 4:30 to host a viewing party with fan giveaways.
Marquette pounds past Murray State, 62-53
LOUISVILLE, KY (AP) -- Jae Crowder scored 12 of his 17 points in the second half, and Marquette used a late run to overcome Murray State 62-53 Saturday, sending the Golden Eagles to the West Regional semifinals.Trailing 46-41 with 7:43 to play, Marquette went on a 14-2 run.While Crowder and Davante Gardner took care of the offense, scoring all but two points during the spurt, the Golden Eagles used their size and strength to wear down the pesky Racers.Isaiah Canaan scored 16 for Murray State, (31-2) which is still looking to get out of the first weekend of the NCAA tournament.It's the second time in three years Murray State has fallen short of the regional semifinals.Marquette (27-7) plays the winner of Norfolk State-Florida next Thursday in Phoenix.

Darius Johnson-Odom scored 20 points and Jae Crowder had a tiebreaking dunk with 1:09 left, leading No. 16 Marquette to a 59-57 victory over Norfolk State in the Paradise Jam championship game Monday night.The Golden Eagles (5-0) never trailed and Johnson-Odom was selected tournament MVP after he scored at least 20 points in each game.Crowder sparked a 10-2 run for Marquette with consecutive 3-pointers.
