SCORE! Brewers fans wake up early, embrace "Spring Madness"
MILWAUKEE (WITI) –The Milwaukee Brewers welcomed “Spring Madness” back to Milwaukee during the team’s current nine-game, 11-day homestand with a new twist this year. Early risers on Tuesday, May 6th had a chance to be the first to get in on the fun!
Early Tuesday morning, over 500 balloons were placed around the city of Milwaukee in a variety of locations and landmarks, including Miller Park.
"Our goal is to be able to give something to the fans, its also obviously to promote Spring Madness Games which are next week and include some great deals from everything from beers to hotdogs to tickets," said Tyler Barnes, the Vice President of Communications with the Milwaukee Brewers.
The hundreds of balloons that were placed at Miller Park were gone within 30 minutes.
"I can`t believe how quick they went, my goodness. There was a lot of excitement. The one thing that has been constant, I did see some kids out here in their pajamas so I assume they were coming out here and then going back to bed after they got their balloons," said Brewers Analyst Dave Nelson.
Each balloon included a voucher for a pair of tickets to a “Spring Madness (414)” game at Miller Park, which will take place from May 13 – 15 when the Brewers host the Pittsburgh Pirates.
In addition, some of the balloons also included vouchers for other prizes such as autographed baseballs, a game-used jersey and a night in a suite.
"We’ve done the yard gnomes in the past and that’s obviously been very very popular, and we just decided it would be fun to sort of paper the city with balloons with vouchers inside," said Barnes, "we didn’t even know if it was possible to put vouchers inside balloons, but we found someone who could do it, so that’s been going on for the last few weeks. We just thought it would be fun to decorate the city in blue and gold and give people the opportunity to get some free prize."
The “Spring Madness (414)” promotion featured 50 percent off select tickets throughout the May 13 - 15 series.
In addition, for all three games the Brewers will celebrate the “414” with special deals on select concession items. All domestic draft, 16-ounce beers will be $4, small Pepsi products and hot dogs will be $1, and nachos will be $4.
In past years, $1 hot dogs and small Pepsi products have been included in the Spring Madness offerings. The deals on draft beer and nachos are new for 2014.
The Brewers held popular scavenger hunts in connection with the annual Spring Madness celebration in previous years, beginning with the unforgettable “Where’s Bernie?” promotion in 2011.
The promotions continued with “Where’s Chorizo?” in 2012 and “Where’s Polish?” last season.
Fans were able to pick up lawn ornaments of the mascots during each of these scavenger hunts.
