Lambeau south end zone project on schedule and budget

GREEN BAY (WITI) -- Crews say the $143 million renovation project for Lambeau Field's south end zone is on schedule and on budget.

In just the past few months -- the south end zone has transformed, and what fans see now is not much different than what they'll see when construction is complete.

"We actually received a certificate of occupancy for most of the building except where we're doing the finishing touches on the levels above and got through that with no lost time, no injuries and on budget and on schedule. It's been fantastic," Stuart Zadra with Hammes Company said.

In addition to new suites and viewing platforms, the addition includes 7,000 seats and 30 new concession stands.

So far, the team has invested more than $100 million into the project.

Needless to say, team officials are excited to see it coming to a close.

"It's definitely in the home stretch. Very excited. Things have come into their focus here, very, very nicely and from the drawing board to seeing it come together is very, very exciting for the organization," Green Bay Packers spokesman Aaron Popkey said.

It's also exciting for those on the season ticket waiting list.

Popkey says the majority of the new seats will go to new season ticket holders. He says the team has gone through more than 5,000 names.

So far, roughly 3,800 have accepted.

Popkey hopes to have the final numbers in a few weeks.

Whether you're in the bowl or enjoying the new addition, officials say Lambeau will remain a great experience.

However, that may not be the case for opposing teams.

"More than 80,000 fans cheering the Packers on, I think it will be pretty loud in that top area. It's got metal behind it, that's going to reflect and I'm sure people will be pounding on that metal, cheering on Aaron Rogers and the Packers," Zadra said.

The project is expected to be complete in July.
