Wisconsin protests against Trump, Musk; House Dem propose new targeted bill

Protests against President Donald Trump and Elon Musk popped up in cities across the country on Wednesday, Feb. 5, including one in Madison.

What we know:

Democratic representatives from Wisconsin condemn Musk, who is leading the Trump administration's Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and his alleged control in the federal government, but Musk has supporters as well.

In Washington, D.C., it's a tale of two different takes on musk and the newly created DOGE.

Musk's DOGE team recently targeted and dismantled the U.S. Agency for International Development, an agency that distributes humanitarian aid worldwide. It caused confusion and some chaos.

So much so that U.S. Rep. Mark Pocan (D-Wis.) is set to introduce the Eliminate Looting of Our Nation by Mitigating Unethical State Kleptocracy (ELON MUSK) Act. It would ban federal government contracts for special government employees.

What they're saying:

"Unelected billionaire Elon Musk has been bulldozing through the federal workforce," Pocan said. "President Trump has relentlessly attacked federal employees as he and Elon Musk seek to eliminate many."

On the other side of the aisle, U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) responded.

"I applaud Elon Musk, I applaud the Trump administration," he said. "Democrats aren’t outraged by this. What they’re outraged by is Elon Musk – he’s unelected."
