"Too close to home:" Pursuit ensues after shots fired in parking lot of The Shooters Shop

WEST ALLIS -- West Allis police are investigating after shots were fired in the parking lot of The Shooters Shop, Inc. just south of 84th and Lincoln on Tuesday afternoon, April 4th. One person is in custody.

It happened around 4:30 p.m.

Police said this stemmed from an altercation which took place in front of the business. Shots were fired during that altercation, and the gunfire originated from a vehicle containing several people. After the shots fired incident, that vehicle fled the scene.

No one was struck by the gunfire.

The Shooters Shop employees were able to provide police with a description of the vehicle. It was located near 84th and Lapham, and a traffic stop was conducted. That's when police say the female driver exited, and a male occupant took control of the vehicle -- fleeing the traffic stop.

A pursuit then ensued, which was terminated near 35th and Center.

Police said the suspected shooter, a 25-year-old man, was arrested Tuesday night at a home in Milwaukee.

The investigation is ongoing.

"Things are getting a little too close to home. There were police and yellow tape surrounding my house and The Shooters Shop. I heard (shots) were fired in the parking lot," Shelley Saavedra said.

FOX6 News crews noted tire marks in the parking lot, and Saavedra said she returned home as investigators were setting out evidence markers.

"I was like, 'Oh no! What's going on?  I hope nothing happened and nobody got shot," Saavedra said.

Saavedra said her neighborhood is normally very quiet, and the gun shop next door doesn't cause problems.

"They're very strict. They don't allow riff-raff in there.  I hope they get this under control before more innocent people get hurt," Saavedra said.
