"There is no logical explanation for the department's actions:" Christopher Manney demands review of his firing

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Protesters are not the only ones asking for another review of the police shooting in Red Arrow Park. The officer who shot and killed Dontre Hamilton is also asking for independent experts to take a look at the case.

Former officer Christopher Manney is fighting to get his job. In documents previously released by his union, Manney says his firing was predetermined. He's the officer at the center of months of protests.

While Christopher Manney will not be criminally charged, the former officer lost his job in the wake of the police shooting death of Dontre Hamilton.

Milwaukee police firing Manney, not for firing the fatal shots, but instead for the moments leading up to the death.

Milwaukee Police Chief Ed Flynn charged Manney with 'failure to have reasonable suspicion prior to conducting a pat-down search' -- and 'failure to adhere to training.'

Manney is appealing his firing.

In documents previously released by his union, the ex-officer lashes back at his former boss.

Manney calls the charges against him a contradiction saying, "there is no logical explanation for the department's actions in charging me."

Manney says the department ruled Hamilton as "so non-dangerous, there was no justification to even pat him down." And then, "so dangerous that I should have called for backup before even approaching him."

Manney says the decision to fire was made without hearing from a training expert.

He's demanding a review of the case.

Manney says he did everything he was trained to do, deciding only to pat down Hamilton after he, "appeared to be cooperating when he stood up and put his arms out."

Manney says he had a right to pat-down Hamilton, and the charges used to fire him "are misguided, but also irrational."

Manney has appealed his firing through the Milwaukee Fire and Police Commission. If he does get his job back, it's unclear if he will able to work again.

The officer has filed for duty disability, claiming to have extreme PTSD from the shooting and events that have followed.
