At the Hamilton School Board on Monday night, Jan. 27, some parents in attendance put the school district on blast for the school district’s response, saying they waited for hours to find out if their children were alive.

What they're saying:
Parents of kids who were on that bus say they only learned of the tragedy by a text message saying their kids were absent. They said they waited hours in a local church for the status of their kids, as the only updates came by email or text.
"Parents should be informed of their child’s whereabouts, who they are with, and given the opportunity to speak with them," said parent Kate Schmitt. "On Jan. 2, these rights were withheld from me and my husband for more than two hours. My son was missing."

"It was deeply unsettling to learn that while our children were kept from their parents for several hours, they had already been questioned by the police without our consent," said parent Ariana Bodenbach. "Our main concern is that this chaos could have been avoided with earlier communication."
What's next:
The school district voted on a new $145,000 busing plan, saying it should be in place in the next two weeks. Students are no longer transferring buses, but some kids have been showing up 20 minutes late to their school as a result. The new plan should change that.

The board also approved a new transportation study.
