Students served Thanksgiving meal on Marquette University campus

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Thanksgiving dinner was served for Marquette University students unable to travel home for the holiday. Marquette faculty and staff served the meal on Thursday, November 28th.

Many of the students who were expected to attend are international students.

The dinner is provided in memory of Rev. William McEvoy, S.J., who first provided this annual dinner for students during the 1950s in the basement of the building that formerly housed the Dental School.

The meal was served Thursday at Corbeen Hall.

"We've had this meal for over 50 years for students who can't go home and celebrate with their families. The turkey, the stuffing and the cranberry sauce,"

Sophomores Lexi Boudreau and Daniel Cibich were two partaking in the meal on Thanksgiving Day.

"It's very quiet and there's not many people around," Boudreau said.

"It lets you see another side of Marquette," Cibich said.

Boudreau and Cibich are resident assistants (RAs) working over the Thanksgiving holiday.

"I bet there's probably like six people in my building right now," Boudreau said.

"During the school year, there's a lot of hustle and bustle and everyone is running to class, but it kind of is nice," Cibich said.

Also taking part was Yanxi Yao and her friends -- graduate students from Beijing, China, who don't usually celebrate Thanksgiving. They took part in the meal as an opportunity to learn about the American holiday.

"It kind of gives you a chance to reflect on the semester and prepare yourself for finals, which is just around the corner," Cibich said.
