State Patrol investigates crash that killed 81-year-old man

WEST ALLIS (WITI) -- The Wisconsin State Patrol is now investigating a crash in West Allis that left an 81-year-old man dead on Wednesday, March 26th. The other car involved in the wreck -- a West Allis police squad.

West Allis police have identified the victim as 81-year-old Elroy Brzycki of West Allis.

Brzycki's family did not want to speak with FOX6 News on Thursday. But officials are trying to answer a lot of questions.

The crash was loud enough to cause neighbors to run to the scene to try to help. What Haley Westhaus doesn't remember is hearing sirens before the crash.

West Allis police say the State Patrol is investigating whether the marked squad traveling west on Lincoln Ave. had its lights and sirens on as it was driving to a call Wednesday afternoon.

Before it made it to another accident scene, the squad was involved in a crash with a car that was being driven by Brzycki just a few blocks from his home. The man died upon arrival at the hospital.

The 36-year-old officer was hurt but will be okay.

The State Patrol did a reconstruction of the accident as part of its investigation. Police have no timetable as to when the investigation will be completed.
