MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Gov. Scott Walker announced on Tuesday, July 2nd that checks totaling $2,918,161 are being distributed to four Wisconsin cities to cover costs incurred in 2012 for maintaining and operating nine lift bridges on Wisconsin’s connecting highways.
The communities and Lift Bridge Aids include:
The Lift Bridge Aids program reimburses cities for costs associated with maintaining and operating lift bridges on highways that provide connections to the state trunk highway system.
The program is administered through the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT), and funded through the Transportation Fund from state-collected highway user fees, motor fuel taxes and vehicle registration fees.
