Southeast Wisconsin under "Red Flag Warning" Sunday

SULLIVAN -- The National Weather Service in Sullivan has issued a Red Flag Warning for all of southeast Wisconsin until 8:00 Sunday night, April 8th.  The warning means conditions are favorable for forest fires. High winds and dry conditions have officials worried about the potential for sparking a fire, and firefighters were on alert Sunday.

The weather service says the greatest risk is Sunday early afternoon until mid-evening.

"A red flag warning is basically a high fire danger.  What we're seeing today, strong winds, low humidity -- that's when conditions are ripe for a fire to spread, and spread quickly and get out of control," FOX6 meteorologist Brittney Sager said Sunday.

The best advice from fire officials is use common sense.  Don't cook outside with an open flame, start a camp fire, or burn brush. "Really you can't totally contain the fire, and people don't watch every ember or where it lands.  Basically, with those dry conditions, all it takes is a little spark and then it is created," North Shore Fire Department Battalion Chief Steve Brennan said.
