Sense of security shaken: Three teenagers accused of stealing dozens of items from several homes
WAUKESHA (WITI) -- Three teenagers, dozens of stolen items and an alleged night of crime! Waukesha police say they've caught the suspects responsible for taking things like iPads...and guns!
Two of the teenage suspects were in court in Waukesha County on Wednesday, July 16th.
Meanwhile, a victim says he's happy to learn of the arrests, but his sense of security is shaken.
"It's nice (on the south side of Waukesha). It really is. We've never had any issues," a burglary victim told FOX6 News.
FOX6 News is not identifying the man.
It was the night of July 8th.
"We were in bed. We were sleeping. My wallet was empty. There was no cash in it," the man said.
The man became the victim of a burglary.
"I noticed things just didn't seem right," the man said.
The man had accidentally left his garage door open -- and police say the three teenage suspects walked right in -- stealing money from the man's wallet, and that wasn't the worst of it.
"I realized somebody had taken a couple of guns out of the basement," the man said.
The man reported the crime to police, and found out he wasn't the only victim. Police say in just one night, at least five homes were hit -- all while homeowners slept inside.
Cash, computers...and even guns were taken. Technology on one of the stolen devices led police to a home in the 300 block of Douglas Avenue. A search warrant was executed, and during the search, officials discovered the majority of the items taken in the burglaries — including stolen guns.
The first arrest was made on Monday, July 14th. A 17-year-old male was taken into custody.
On Wednesday, July 16th, Waukesha officials announced that an 18-year-old male and a 19-year-old male were taken into custody.
Multiple charges were referred to the Waukesha County District Attorney’s Office including: burglary (multiple counts), attempted burglary, armed burglary, felon in use of oleo-resin device, and felon in possession of a firearm.
"Hopefully, they'll get to serve some time for their crime," the victim tells FOX6 News.
It's a crime that has changed this victim's mindset.
"I've already been to the hardware store and I got new locks. It could've been a lot worse than it really was," the man said.
