Police pursuit ends in crash near 27th and Grange in Milwaukee, driver fled on foot

FRANKLIN -- One vehicle flips and a suspect splits after leading Franklin police on a high-speed chase early Friday morning, Sept. 7. Several jurisdictions worked together to try to capture the culprit.

Not only did the driver lead police on a dangerous pursuit, but he caused significant damage by slamming into another vehicle that left wreckage all over the street. A broken fire hydrant was just the beginning.

"We had the front bumper laying in the yard there for a little bit," said Lisa Libecki, who works nearby.

The remnants of a violent crash sit outside of Nicky K's Sports Bar.

"There are businesses everywhere, cars coming in and out of driveways," said Libecki.

The incident began around 4:45 a.m. after Franklin police attempted to conduct a traffic stop in the area of 27th Street and Sycamore Avenue. While conducting this stop, the vehicle fled the scene and a pursuit was initiated.

Thankfully many business were closed when the suspect came barreling down 27th Street.

"The entire intersection was blocked off," said Libecki.

The chase ended near Grange when the driver crashed into another vehicle.

"It looked pretty serious," said Libecki.

The powerful impact caused one of them to rollover.

"We had car parts up and down 27th Street," said Libecki.

Meanwhile, the driver in the fleeing vehicle took off on foot -- continuing to try and evade police.

Authorities went to great heights and lengths trying to locate him. The Greenfield Police Department even launched a drone and West Allis assisted with their K-9, "to catch him, find him, to bring him to accountability," said Libecki.

He was able to escape, but his injured passenger was left behind at the scene and was taken to the hospital. That person, along with people in the other vehicle, are expected to be OK. Libecki said she is thankful the injuries weren't worse and hope the search for the man responsible doesn't stop here.

"There's a lot to be held accountable for," said Libecki. "You're eventually going to get caught."

Franklin police said they have identified the driver and are currently attempting to locate him. We've also learned that the initial stop was for not having a front license plate.
