Pleasant Prairie police chase, Illinois man sentenced

PLEASANT PRAIRIE, Wis. - An Illinois man who led Pleasant Prairie police on a wild chase, while wanted for stalking a pregnant woman, has been sentenced to prison.

Devin Sawyers-Dussault, 35, was sentenced to six-and-a-half years in prison and six years of extended supervision. He was granted credit for more than three years' time served.

Court records show Sawyers-Dussault pleaded guilty to fleeing police and second-degree recklessly endangering safety in April. Fourteen other charges, including stalking, were dismissed as part of a plea negotiation.

Police chase and arrest

The backstory:

Prosecutors said Sawyers-Dussault was wanted for stalking and repeatedly trying to kill a pregnant woman in December 2022. A criminal complaint said he sent her threatening texts that said, "I'm going to kill you this time," and, "Before I get caught, you'll be dead." 

When Pleasant Prairie police officers tried to pull him over near 39th Avenue and 85th Street, he led them on a chase that reached speeds of 120 mph and crossed into Lake County, Illinois. He tried to hit a squad during the pursuit, police said.

Stop sticks ultimately brought the vehicle to a halt, but investigators said Dussault ran off. After a search, police initially came up empty-handed, but he was arrested the next day. Police said they found ammunition and methamphetamine/MDMA in that vehicle.
