Off-duty officer charged with endangering safety
MILWAUKEE -- A 27-year-old Mayville man was charged on Friday with endangering safety by use of a dangerous weapon while under the influence of an intoxicant.
According to the criminal complaint, Brandon Mantych was pulled over by West Allis police near 84th and Rogers on Monday, July 2nd. During the course of the investigation, Mantych told police he was himself an off-duty officer. When asked if Mantych had any firearms in his vehicle, the complaint says he first said, "no." But he then changed his answer to say he had his firearm (a semi-automatic Glock .40 caliber) in his car's center console.
The complaint indicates the firearm had a full magazine -- and directly next to the firearm "was an open can of Miller Lite beer, approximately three-fourths full, and still very cold."
Mantych submitted to a blood draw -- and it was determined he had a blood alcohol content of .112% -- more than the legal limit for driving.
If convicted on the charge, Mantych faces up to nine months in prison and $10,000 in fines.
