Milwaukee School Board agrees to boost starting teacher salary
MILWAUKEE -- The Milwaukee School Board agreed on Thursday, December 20th to boost starting teacher salary Thursday night for new Milwaukee Public Schools teachers. It's a move to make the district more competitive as MPS seeks 700 new teachers for the upcoming school year.
New teachers and administrators will also have 24 months instead of the current 12 months to move into the city of Milwaukee if they’re coming into hard-to-fill positions. A third year to comply with residency would be an option in hardship cases.
The salary move raises starting pay to $41,000 from $37,721.
