Milwaukee firefighters rescue man from downtown building

MILWAUKEE -- A maintenance worker was doing his job high above downtown Milwaukee Tuesday when he suddenly started suffering chest pains. That's when the Milwaukee Fire Department's Heavy Urban Rescue Team (HURT) was called into action.

The window washer was on scaffolding on top of the Northwestern Mutual building near Mason and Marshall.

The HURT team worked its way into the building's walled rooftop from the inside. They were then able to put the man in a basket and lower him down, where he was then taken to the hospital.

FOX6 profiled the Heavy Urban Rescue Team just two weeks ago, as they took part in training at Miller Park. "This really was just another day of duty for them, doing what they do," Milwaukee Fire Battalion Chief Christopher Snyder said.

Chief Synder says the man was alert, responsive and expected to recover as he left the scene in the ambulance Tuesday afternoon.

Snyder also says Northwestern Mutual's emergency medical personnel and their planned response was very helpful in the rescue effort.
