Fatal pedestrian accident temporarily shuts down I-894 near National

MILWAUKEE - Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to a crash where a vehicle struck a pole near the I-41/I-894 off-ramp to National Avenue around 9 a.m. 

Witnesses say the female driver appeared dazed when she got out of the car and wander into freeway traffic where she was struck by a semi-truck. Upon the deputies’ arrival, they found the driver unresponsive with injuries to her head and legs.

The West Allis Fire Department responded to the scene and pronounced the driver deceased.

MCSO initiated a full freeway closure at 9:11 a.m. and reopened at noon. West Allis Police Department and Milwaukee Police Department assisted with the ramp closures.

Officials are not releasing any more information at this time.

MCSO Criminal Investigative Division is continuing its investigation into factors leading up to the fatality.
