MADACC announces new Twitter account to help locate lost animals

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Milwaukee Area Domestic Animal Control Commission (MADACC), announced that Twitter will be a new tool for them to get the word out when an animal comes into their facility and get them back into the arms of their owners.

The internet, and use of smartphones already play a role in many aspects of animal welfare so MADACC is hoping that they can find the same success promoting the animals that come into the shelter by sending out tweets each time one arrives.

"Our number one priority at MADACC is to get these animals back to their owners. Our return to owner rate for dogs is 28% and there is only one 3.5% return to owner rate for cats. Many owners are not sure what to do when they lose an animal or think to contact us to file a lost report or come into MADACC to search the animals we have in the building," said Karen Sparapani, executive director for MADACC.

If your dog or cat goes missing, after calling MADACC to file a lost report, you can head to MADACC's Twitter page and see the animals that have come in. The account will be updated every fifteen minutes.

Using a smartphone you can also set up alerts to be notified every time an animal comes in to MADACC.
