Largest 1-day case increase: 1,600+ positive for COVID-19 in Wisconsin, 18K+ negative, 34 deaths

MILWAUKEE — The total positive cases of coronavirus in Wisconsin rose to 1,626 on Wednesday, April 1, officials with the Wisconsin Department of Health Services reported. There have been a total of 34 deaths — and more than 18,000 negative tests (18,819).

New on Wednesday, DHS officials began including the number of patients hospitalized as a result of COVID-19. As of Wednesday at 2 p.m., that number was 398 (26%) -- updates HERE.

Milwaukee County’s coronavirus dashboard showed 833 positive cases in the county Wednesday afternoon. The state listed Milwaukee County as having 780 positive cases (as of 9 p.m. Tuesday).

Health officials in Dane County reported an additional 17 cases Wednesday (232 vs. 215 reported by the state as of Tuesday night).

Kenosha County health officials reported an additional three cases Wednesday (57 vs. 54 reported by the state as of Tuesday night).

In Sheboygan County, health officials reported an additional three cases (15 vs. 12 reported by the state as of Tuesday night).

With the additional cases, the statewide total is 1,626.
