MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- The fight for justice marches on for the family of Dontre Hamilton, he's the man shot and killed in Red Arrow Park nearly one year ago. The Hamilton family and members of the Coalition for Justice, continue their mission to bring peace and fairness to the city of Milwaukee.
Inspired by their faith, they gathered again. Not only to pray, but putting a path to peace down on paper.
"We need to cast a vision of hope. We need to tear down those lines that divide us around race and class," said All People's Church Senior Pastor, Steve Gerbi.
So in the basement of Bethany Lutheran Church, members of the Coalition for Justice opened the floor and started filling in the blanks. Listing what the problems are and how communities can begin solving them.
"We cannot say enough is enough and not do anything," said Nate Hamilton, Dontre Hamilton's brother.
Nate Hamilton's brother Dontre was killed nearly a year ago by a former Milwaukee police officer. He says the ideas generated today will be sent to city leaders like the mayor and police chief.
"Finding ways to provide our community with a better structure with creating change. Giving the people voice and power," said Nate Hamilton.
The goals are not easy, but are a matter of life and death.
"If we do nothing it will be bad," said Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church Pastor, Chris Ikanih.
This group says there are ways the city can succeed. But first, they are writing them down on paper and deciding on Milwaukee's next step.
"You really can't push anyone to do anything -- but by pulling them, you're taking the lead," said Nate Hamilton.
The Coalition for Justice and the Hamilton family are also preparing for the one year anniversary of Dontre Hamilton's death. They are planning to gather Thursday evening, April 30th, at 5:30 p.m. in Red Arrow Park.
