"Hopped out of the car and ran:" Video captures suspects involved in fatal hit-and-run crash near 39th & Hadley

MILWAUKEE -- One woman is dead and another six people were taken to the hospital following a gruesome crash that took place near 39th and Hadley Friday afternoon, May 27th.

Crash at 39th and Hadley, Milwaukee

The crash was a hit-and-run, and police say the vehicle at fault was stolen.

Police are now hoping video taken nearby will help them catch the people who did this.

At the start of what should have been a happy holiday weekend, a family was ripped apart.

"I was standing on my porch and then I heard a big old boom," said a witness who lives nearby.

Police say shortly after 3:30 p.m., a stolen Audi Q7 was traveling westbound on Hadley, going at least double the speed limit. The driver blew through a stop sign, t-boning a 1999 Hyundai Elantra that was traveling north on 39th.

Seven people were inside the Elantra.

A 46-year-old woman died on scene. Her 26-year-old son and his 28-year-old girlfriend were injured and taken to Froedtert with non-life threatening injuries.

Four children were also inside the car -- ages 3, 5, 7 and 8. They were taken to Children's Hospital. The 7 and 8-year-old children sustained serious injuries and are now in critical condition.

The 28-year-old woman is the mother of three of those children -- the other is the nephew of the 26-year-old man.

"I seen them do CPR on her and then it was just over. I seen them when they just gave up on CPR. I knew it was over after that and I seen her son crying over her, begging her to wake up," said a witness.

Two, possibly three people bailed out of the stolen vehicle and fled from the scene.

"They didn't even check on the lady. They just hopped out of the car and ran," said the witness.

Police say the stolen Audi was taken in Racine County about a month ago. They're hopeful images captured nearby will help them identify the two or three people who caused the hit-and-run.
