Gov. Walker to take part in Harley-Davidson 110th events

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- As the Harley-Davidson 110th anniversary celebration kicks off in the days before and during Labor Day Weekend, one man keeping a close eye on everything Harley-Davidson in Milwaukee is Governor Scott Walker.

It is not uncommon to find Gov. Walker zipping through Wisconsin on his Harley. He first hopped on a bike when he was serving as Milwaukee's County Executive -- right around Harley's 100th anniversary bash.

A decade later, Gov. Walker will rev up that same bike -- his Harley Road King.

"I`m excited.  I`ll be out on a 100th anniversary Road King.  I`ll be riding it at multiple events.  Events for the Fisher House, charities for breast cancer awareness and of course the ride on Saturday," Gov. Walker said.

It will be tough topping what he says was the thrill of a lifetime: leading 10,000 bikers from the Summerfest grounds to downtown Milwaukee for the company's centennial parade.

Gov. Walker says wherever he goes, thoughts of the 110th are never far from his mind.

Last April, Gov. Walker helped open a Harley-Davidson dealership in China. He says some of the workers he met are coming to visit Milwaukee this week.

Before he hits the open road, FOX6 News had to ask Gov. Walker about the continued push to rename Highway 45 in Milwaukee the Harley-Davidson Heritage Highway of Honor.

"I love it.  I think it`s a great idea.  Particularly in light of all the Harley riders coming in from around the world. What better way to recognize a true American icon than Harley-Davidson motor company," Gov. Walker said.
