Gov. Walker asks for extension on Kenosha casino decision

MADISON (WITI) -- Governor Scott Walker, along with the Menominee Indian Tribe, has asked for an extension in deciding the fate of the proposed Kenosha casino.

In a letter written to the U.S. Department of Interior, the governor asks for a 180 day extension. The request indicates more time is needed for the state to do an independent analysis of the economic impact of a casino in Kenosha.

Walker maintains there must be a consensus among the state's 11 tribes and no net increase in gaming -- however, both the Potawatomi and Ho Chunk tribes have repeatedly opposed the project.

If granted, the extension would give Gov. Walker until February 2015 to make a decision.
