FBI increases its portion of reward in Za'layia Jenkins case to $15,000; total now $40,000

MILWAUKEE -- The Milwaukee Division of the FBI announced on Thursday, May 19th an increased reward for information in the shooting death of nine-year-old Za'layia Jenkins. The FBI previously offered a $10,000 reward -- but that amount was increased to $15,000.

Jenkins was shot inside a home near 15th and Meinecke on the evening of May 5th. The nine-year-old girl, who would have turned 10 years old on Tuesday, May 17th was "legally pronounced dead/brain dead" at 5:00 p.m. on Monday, May 16th, according to the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office.

The FBI's $15,000 reward is on top of a $25,000 reward offered by Attorney Michael Hupy. In total, $40,000 is now being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the shooter in this case.

Robert Shields, FBI Special Agent-in-Charge said the following in a statement:

"We are asking for the public’s help, if anyone has information that could lead to the arrest and conviction of those who are responsible for this violent crime we have a significant reward and would like to hear from you."
