Drivers take note: Construction barrels are not going away as temps fall

MILWAUKEE CO. (WITI) -- If you thought construction was heavy around the Zoo Interchange in Milwaukee County now, officials from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) say get ready for what's to come.

While we're used to seeing orange construction barrels around during the summer months, they will not be going away as the cold settles in.

"We are really getting into the heavy portions of the Zoo Interchange project. If you thought the project had been big, it's going to start getting big," said Ryan Luck from the WisDOT.

84th St. under I-94 closed on Sunday, October 12th for five months. Another long-term closing happens Wednesday at Bluemound Rd. over Highway 45. Then on Thursday, WisDOT is closing the on-ramps (northbound and southbound) to Highway 45 from Wisconsin Ave.

There is a silver lining with all of this construction news. On Thursday, east and westbound Watertown Plank Rd. under Highway 45 will reopen. It has been closed for nearly a year.
