"Don`t wait! Buy it!" Local blogger dishes the dirt on deals with Contact 6

MILWAUKEE (WITI) — There are a lot of ways to spend your hard-earned cash. So why not save some of it when you can? It can be easy if you know what to look for at some of your favorite stores.

FOX6's Contact 6 reporter Katrina Cravy hit up three big retailers with local blogger, deal hunter, savvy shopper and mother of four Ann Heinzel a.k.a. My Milwaukee Mommy.

Ann Heinzel shows Katrina Cravy how to snag a deal at Target.

Their first stop — Target.

My Milwaukee Mommy showed Cravy several ways to save. First, Heinzel says look closely at the tag because it can reveal a lot.

"In the top right corner, it will tell you the percentage off," Heinzel revealed.

Heinzel says you'll see discounts at Target ranging from 15% to 70% off, but 70% is the cut off. Heinzel says if you see an item you want at 70% off, it's a good buy and the lowest the price will drop.

Tags can also show you if an item has been repackaged. If there's nothing wrong with the product, the price will end with a "1."

Other advice from Heinzel — don't be fooled by the word "sale." She says there's still a good chance the price will drop.

Heinzel also recommends having your smartphone handy when shopping at Target and using their Cartwheel App. The app gives you tons of savings even on items that are already discounted.

The next stop — Sam's Club.

Sam's Club manager, Mike Lindahl, explains price codes at the wholesale retailer.

Club Manager Mike Lindahl joined Cravy and Heinzel. He gave them the inside scoop on how to read their codes. Lindahl says these are the letters to look for:

Lindahl says if you see an 'O' item and like it, you should buy it. He the same shopping strategy for products ending in a "1."

"If the last number is a one, it typically means it's a canceled item and we won't be carrying that item any longer," Lindahl revealed.

Heinzel noted another letter too. The letter "C."

"It's closeout. It's clearance. It's canceled, so they're no longer going to carry it after the one," Heinzel said.

The final stop — Best Buy.

Heinzel says there's plenty of rumors online about prices at Best Buy having a special meaning, but from what she's found it's all myths.

"Almost everything at Best Buy ends with a .99. You can't really crack the code at Best Buy," Heinzel said.

She says to save money at Best Buy, focus on price matching.

"They do have a really awesome price match guarantee and you can bring items from local competitors as well as online retailers and they will price match. They will not be beat," Heinzel said.

She recommends checking out ads before and after you buy a product. Heinzel says the store will match a price for up to 15 days after you purchase it — just make sure to hold on to your receipt and bring the ad with you.

Heinzel knows that no matter where you shop it can be hard to know whether or not you're really getting a deal, but her best advice is if you see a good price — snag it!

"If it's what you're comfortable with, buy it. Don't wait," Heinzel advised.
