Craft fair shoppers opt for homemade gifts on Black Friday

FRANKLIN (WITI) -- Thousands of shoppers flocked to malls and department stores for Black Friday deals on November 29th, but some bargain hunters chose to switch it up a bit by visiting the Holiday Craft and Gift Expo in Franklin.

Shoppers searched for one-of-a-kind gifts at the annual craft fair, which many say is a part of their Black Friday tradition.

“It’s been a tradition in our family for a really long time,” said Sarah Trevorrow. “We just like looking around to seeing things we don't usually see at the mall."

"The malls are full of lines and here you just get to walk around and people are just so nice and welcoming," added Brianne Trevorrow.

The craft and gift expo boasts everything from homemade holiday decorations, to jewelry, to items for pets.

“What I do, all this dog stuff, is pretty different and so people come looking for me,” said Jean Anich with Bow Wow Meow.

Anich has been a part of the craft expo for 31 years. Over that time there have been some changes, including new locations. The event is in its second year at the Milwaukee County Sports Complex in Franklin, and many shoppers are pleased with the change.

“It's a lot nicer. There is free parking and there are more booths because it’s cheaper for them to be here,” said Denise Trevorrow.

The expo runs until 7 p.m. Friday night, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, November 30th and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, December 1st. Admission is $5 for adults.
