Couples tie the knot at courthouse on Valentine’s Day

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Love was in the air at the Milwaukee County Courthouse this Valentine’s Day.

On any given day, we see a handful of couples exchange their vows to become husband and wife.  But on Valentine’s Day, it's the lucky in love who tie the knot on this special holiday.

Four times more weddings were booked on this day than any average Thursday.  Normally, there are about 8 civil ceremonies.  This day, almost 40.

“It's been really fun, really fun.  It's great to see all these happy couples come in and get married and I’m happy to take part in their happy day,” said Judge Rebecca Bradley.

For many couples, it's a day that couldn't be more fitting.

“It's always been a special day.  Since we met, we've always celebrated it together,” said bride Lisette Ruiz.

On the most romantic day of the year, it's also a wedding date husband Byron Armstrong will never forget.

“I thought it'd be romantic and I was born on February the 13th.  So birthday, Valentine’s, all in one.  Can't forget any of that,” he said.

For Michael and Jamika Armstead, you can call their story love at first sight.

“It's been 2 years.  And when we first met each other, we both knew we had an epiphany or revelation we were each other's spouse,” said Armstead.

You can call it cliché, but for all the couples saying their “I-dos,” there is no denying that love is in the air this Valentine's Day.

This is an annual tradition for the Milwaukee County Courthouse staff.  As expected, Valentine's Day is the busiest day of the year for civil wedding ceremonies.
