Community rallies around family of officer who died after childbirth

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Just days after a West Allis police detective dies, the community is rallying around her family.

Detective Stacie Napoli died moments after she gave birth to twins. The twins survived. Now, a fund that has been set up to help the family is getting some big support from a business in Milwaukee, Sobelmans Pub & Grill.

"It's a really sad story. A customer contacted us through facebook and brought it to our attention that there was a fundraiser," said David Sobelman.

That fundraiser, which was started by a friend of the Napoli family, has a goal of $50,000. On Thursday, it had already reached more than 84 percent of that goal. Sobelman hopes to hit the goal or exceed it on Sunday.

"We will give a dollar for every burger we sell, all day long, a dollar to her or to the fund," said Sobelman.

While he didn't even know Det. Napoli, Sobelman hopes he can do something for her family during such a difficult time.

"There's a man without his wife who's going to be raising 2 kids on his own. It's a sad story," said Sobelman.

The Sobelmans fundraiser will go all day at its location on St. Paul in Milwaukee.
