Careers Industries opens new facility in Racine

RACINE -- "Careers Industries" in Racine opens a new, bigger facility on Monday. It's a welcomed expansion for a growing number of people with developmental and other disabilities.

After a year of searching and renovating, the full-service agency for the developmentally disabled relocated to a 52,000 square foot space on Washington Avenue in Racine.

"There's just been a real demand for the services that we provide. So we wanted to find a space that we could grow. We also needed to find a space to allow us to bring in more jobs for our people with disabilities," said Joe Greene of "Careers Industries."
The new facility will provide more space to clients who spend their days assembling parts for more than 200 Racine County businesses that depend on their work.
The new site also features high-tech training rooms, larger lunchrooms, and even a teaching kitchen.

There are 350 participants at "Careers Industries." The non-profit agency plans to hold a series of open houses next month for interested businesses, families and supporters.
