Bucks star Khris Middleton traded; Milwaukee legacy’s community commitment

The Milwaukee Bucks are trading NBA champion and Olympic gold medalist Khris Middleton to the Washington Wizards and getting Kyle Kuzma back.

Local perspective:

Middleton, 33, has played the second-most games in Bucks history. Turns out, he saw his community members as teammates too.

As far as we know, nothing in Middleton's contract required him to share his time or money. But with a nickname like "Khash," maybe it's only right he wanted to give back.

It's Dec. 1 and Middleton's about a week away from making his 2024 season debut.

What they're saying:

Ask Hunger Task Force Chief Strategy Officer Jonathan Hansen, and you'll see just how valuable Middleton has been beyond the walls of Fiserv Forum.

"He is the rare, rare example of an athlete who uses their resources," Hansen said. "For many of the kids that we serve, they are thrilled for the opportunity to work with Khris Middleton and to cook food with him in our kitchen. That can't be measured."

Hansen said it was Middleton who approached the Hunger Task Force, hoping to collaborate. And in the years since, he's packed boxes, cooked healthy meals with kids and donated to help families fight hunger as part of his 12 Days of Khrismas.

"He's just really been an inspiration for how someone can be a champion on the court but also off the court in our community," Hansen said.

Eric Evans knows this first-hand. His Power Moves Relocation business has just about everything it needs. He said it was Middleton who helped make that reality.

"Khris Middleton blessed us with moving blankets, stretch wrap, dollies, different tools that'll help our process go smoother, so the investment for us really helped us get to that next level," Evans said.

A level he hopes will keep rising just as Middleton's did in Milwaukee.
