A dispute over donations: Where is campaign cash coming from in the race for governor?

MADISON (WITI) -- The dispute over donations: The race for governor is now focused on where campaign cash is coming from. Democratic candidate for governor Mary Burke says donations from outside of Wisconsin should be banned, but Governor Scott Walker says that's hypocritical.

Gov. Walker and Burke continue to criss-cross the state looking for votes in the race for governor, but it's what's happening outside Wisconsin that has the two candidates talking.

After the campaigns released their fundraising totals for the last six months, Burke criticized Walker's fundraising effort.

"Scott Walker raises more than half of his money from people outside of the state of Wisconsin, and that's just not right.  As governor, I'm going to make sure I'm going to work hard to actually outlaw donations from outside of the state," Burke said.

Burke says she has raised about 30 percent of her campaign donations from out-of-state.

Walker says it's hypocritical because Burke is attending a fundraiser in Chicago on Tuesday.

"People are sick and tired of politicians -- whether they're running for state office, or Congress or anything else, who say one thing and then do something else.  In this case, I think it's pretty clear, she said one thing and then not only did something different, but continues to do something different," Gov. Walker said.

Burke's campaign spokesman says she feels strongly that there's too much money in the political system, and if she's elected, she'll work to change that."

"I'm not concerned because I'm going to be able to raise the type of resources to get my message out, and even though I'll be outspent, I can still win," Burke said.

"The one thing people will see about me is whether you like or dislike everything I've done or not done, I think it's pretty clear, if I say something,  I do it.  I don't tell people something and then do something different.  This is part of a pattern," Gov. Walker said.

The latest campaign finance reports show Walker is out-raising Burke by a 2-to-1 margin.
