Southeast Wisconsin cold advisory; -20° wind chills possible

A cold weather advisory is in effect for all of southeast Wisconsin until midnight. Dangerous wind chills of -15 to -25 are expected to continue into Tuesday night. Frostbite can occur in as little as 30 minutes to exposed skin. 

Timeline:

The bitter cold started Sunday morning, meaning southeast Wisconsin has had 3 straight mornings with wind chills in the 20s or 30s below 0. The coldest temperatures and wind chills occurred Tuesday morning. Temperatures in Milwaukee were the coldest since January of 2019. 

Below is a timeline of feel-like temperatures from Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. Wind chills will be between -10 and -20° through Wednesday morning then climb above 0 Wednesday afternoon thanks to an incoming warm front.

What's next:

Luckily, we will warm back into the 20s Wednesday as southerly winds return, and stay in the 20s the rest of the week. 

The Milwuakee Department of Public Works said that sanitation services will be called off Tuesday "out of an abundance of caution and protection" for the health and safety of their staff.
