MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Milwaukee County Sheriff's officials say a two-vehicle crash caused some backups on U.S. 41 NB near I-94 WB Thursday evening, March 5th.Sheriff's officials say one person suffered minor injuries.Other vehicles were able to get through the area, but some ended up going around the crash and through the "gore area" -- a center area created when two roadways split.There were some backups as a result of the crash.Everything was cleared up by about 6:30 p.m.

To keep drivers safe: Wisconsin DOT partners with the National Weather Service

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- The timing of the state’s latest round of winter weather coincides well with an announcement made Tuesday, March 3rd regarding a new partnership between the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) and the National Weather Service (NWS).“WisDOT will use its 511 travel information resources and statewide dynamic message signs (DMS) to alert Wisconsin travelers of various winter storm events,” said Paul Keltner, State Traffic Operations supervisor. “These are storms that NWS predicts will have significant impacts on highway traffic safety, such as: winter storm warnings, blizzard warnings, ice storm warnings and lake effect snow warnings.”The weather messages will appear as scrolling alerts on WisDOT’s 511 website: www.511wi.gov; be included on the 511 automated telephone system; and displayed on DMSs, either statewide or in the affected geographic area.Messages will include specific storm information including the event timeframe, potential impacts to travelers and recommended courses of action.

Terry Slaybaugh, Mitchell International Airport's new director is now on the job

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Terry Slaybaugh is the new airport director for Mitchell International Airport -- and he was officially introduced on Wednesday, February 18th.Prior to his arrival in Milwaukee, Slaybaugh was running the airport in Dayton, Ohio where he led an aggressive airport modernization capital program and helped the airport maintain fiscal stability during a turbulent time in the airline industry.As he takes over at Mitchell International Airport, Slaybaugh says his biggest challenge is adding more direct flights, and he says he needs help from local businesses."For us to be successful in getting some of the tougher markets that people want to see direct service to out of Milwaukee, I'm going to need the business community with me telling me what they're doing in those markets and why it's important to them," Slaybaugh said.Slaybaugh was hired after an extensive nationwide search and interview process, he replaces Barry Bateman who retired in April.“In the almost four years I've been in office, I have been directly involved with hiring decisions for leadership in many departments because I know the most important factor in any organization's success is its leadership.

Delta flight headed to Atlanta forced to return to Mitchell Airport after experiencing mechanical issue

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- A Delta flight had to return to General Mitchell International Airport Tuesday afternoon, February 3rd after experiencing a mechanical issue during takeoff, a Delta Air Lines spokeswoman tells FOX6 News.Delta Flight 1052 was headed to Atlanta from Milwaukee.The mechanical issue involved one of the aircraft's two engines.The Delta Airlines spokeswoman says the flight crew followed procedures and returned the Boeing MD-88 aircraft to Milwaukee.
