Wave topple Lancers, 13-6

MILWAUKEE -- The Wave got a welcomed addition for today’s game as Marcio Leite saw his first action of the season. A strong team effort in the first half that led the Wave to a 13-6 win over the Rochester Lancers improving their record to 3-2.

Josh Rife opened the scoring with a three point goal to give the Wave a 3-0 lead. In his second game back with the Wave, Marcelo Fontana scored to put the Wave up 5-0 heading into the second quarter. The score remained that way throughout most of the quarter until the MISL leader in goals, Doug Miller, scored to trim the Wave’s lead to 5-2. The Wave ended the quarter strong as Nick Perera and Joe Hammes added three point goals within a ten second span to give the Wave an 11-2 halftime lead.

In the third quarter Doug Miller scored once again to make it 11-4 which turned out to be the only scoring of the quarter. Late into the third quarter multiple cards caused the ejection of Rochester’s Rey Martinez.

Brayton Knapp got Rochester closed the gap as his goal early in the fourth made it 11-6, with the Wave still on top. Marcelo Fontana scored his second goal of the game to put the game out of reach for good and gave the Wave a 13-6 victory.

The Wave plays next in Chicago this coming Friday and returns home on Saturday, December 22nd at 6 p.m. against an undefeated Baltimore.
