Wave advance to the MISL championship series

MILWAUKEE -- The Milwaukee Wave clinched the Central Division Playoff Championship with a 9-7 win over the Missouri Comets bringing them closer to their goal of a MISL Championship repeat. The Wave will have to wait until Monday evening to find out who they will be playing in the MISL Championship Series as the Baltimore Blast and Rochester Lancers play Monday evening.

A physical, evenly matched first half ended in a 5-5 tie. The Wave’s Marco Terminesi opened the scoring netting a goal from the center from a Santos assist. The Comets’ Cristiano evened the game with a goal on a restart. Joe Hammes then gave the Wave the lead once again on a 3-point goal only to have the Comets’ Byron Alvarez blast a 3-point goal of his own with the half ending in a 5-5 tie.

The Comets’ Leo Gibson scored quickly in the third quarter off a restart giving the Comets their first and only lead of the game at 7-5. The Wave’s Ian Bennett tied the game and the Wave didn’t look back. Terminesi scored his second goal of the game by heading in a rebound giving the Wave a 9-7 score. The Wave’s defense lead by goalkeeper Marcel Feenstra came up huge again holding the Comets to just one goal in the third and fourth quarter.
