Pirates power past Brewers in rare Miller Park win
MILWAUKEE (WITI)-- Not very often do the Pittsburgh Pirates come away with a win at Miller Park. But on Saturday, they used the long ball to get only their 9th win in 56 games at the Brewers stadium in a 5-2 win.
In the 1st inning Andrew McCutchen connected on a Mike Fiers pitch, sending it over the wall in left giving the Pirates a 1-0 lead.
Pedro Alvarez added a 2 run home run in the 2nd inning giving Pittsburgh a 3-0 lead. In the 4th inning another long ball, a solo blast by Neil Walker, put the Bucs up 4-0.
It wasn't until the 7th inning that the Brewers got on the board. Carlos Gomez hit his 7th home run of the of season cutting the lead to 4-1.
However, in the 9th, Alvarez hit his 2nd home run of the game deep to right making it 5-1. In the bottom of the inning, Gomez added his 2nd of the game and 8th of the season bringing the score to 5-2.
The Brewers couldn't add any more to their total giving Pittsburgh a rarity, a win at Miller Park. The series will conclude Sunday afternoon.
