GREEN BAY (WITI) -- A heartbreaking end to the Green Bay Packers' season -- defeated in the NFC title game by the defending Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks -- who are now headed back to the big game. It has been four years since Packers fans have had this kind of post-season excitement, and ahead of the game -- there was eager anticipation and a little nervousness. Following the first half, Packers fans were optimistic we'd see a green and gold victory. Then, there was overtime -- and then...a Seattle Seahawks touchdown, and a Green Bay Packers loss.
After riding high for much of the game, losing at the bitter end was a heartbreaking way to end the Packers season for fans.
The streets near Lambeau Field were eerily quiet early Sunday, January 18th -- but inside the Stadium View Bar on Holmgren Way in Green Bay, the feeling was electric heading into the big Packers vs. Seahawks matchup.
For much of the game it was hard to hear the commentators over the party.
"Can`t get much louder in here! We`re almost as loud as Seattle," Larry Owe of Wauwatosa said.
"We`ve got the best fans, by far!" Scott Sticha said.
Seattle has the "12th Man," but at the Stadium View Bar Sunday, fans put their faith in a lucky rabbit.
Marykay Charbonneau
"I`ve been doing this for 15 years!" Marykay Charbonneau said.
Charbonneau, of Norway, Michigan walked the room giving high fives and asking people to squeeze her tail for luck! Charbonneau says she had to be in Green Bay for Sunday's game.
"I traveled a long time to come here, because I know the atmosphere is great," Charbonneau said.
But in the end, luck ran out -- and with a Seahawks victory, what was a celebration turned to stunned silence.
"I don`t feel like we played the way we did in the first three quarters and in the fourth quarter we let 'em back into it," Craig Jackel said.
"This was a real heartbreaker because we had the game and then all of a sudden in the last couple minutes we let it slip away," Jim Sievert said.
"This was the championship game and we had it -- but you know what? I`m so proud of the Green Bay Packers and Aaron Rodgers and the whole team," Charbonneau said.
Many fans say they're disappointed and frustrated following Sunday's loss, but very proud of how the team played this season -- saying they're optimistic about next year.
