Packers-49ers, no love lost
GREEN BAY -- There is no love lost between Mike McCarthy's Green Bay Packers, and Jim Harbaugh's San Francisco 49ers.
A day after the defending NFC Champs outlasted the Pack, 34-28, Harbaugh accused Clay Matthews of being a dirty player for what he termed a "cheap shot" on Colin Kaepernick. While admitting that his player made a bad decision, McCarthy said that Matthews is anything but a dirty player; he was visibly annoyed by Harbaugh's accusation.
Matthews hit the 49ers quarterback out of bounds with a clothesline tackle; the Pro Bowl linebacker was called for an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty; San Francisco's Joe Staley also drew a personal foul.
After the game, referee Bill Leavy admitted that his botched call benefited the 49ers; however, on Monday, the NFL said Staley should not have been penalized for getting in Matthews face.
The league could fine Clay Matthews, although a suspension is unlikely, given that the personal foul was his first.
