On the road again: Packers meet division rival Chicago Bears at Soldier Field Sunday
CHICAGO (WITI) -- An ugly loss for the Green Bay Packers to the Detroit Lions last Sunday -- and this Sunday, the team meets another division rival on the field: the Chicago Bears.
The Packers are on the road again this week. Kickoff is set for noon at Soldier Field. You can watch Sunday's game on FOX6!
The Green Bay Packers are 1-2 following last Sunday's loss to the Lions and a Week 1 loss to the Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks. The Pack won in Week 2 against the Jets.
The Chicago Bears are 2-1.
Sunday will mark game number 189 in the NFL’s oldest rivalry. No two teams have met on the gridiron more than the Packers and the Bears.
The teams met for the first time back in 1923. They met for the next 59 straight years until both games in 1982 were cancelled due to a strike-shortened season.
The Bears hold a 93-89-6 edge in the series, which includes two playoff games.
During the 2010 season, the teams squared off in the playoffs for just the second time in the history of the series. With a berth in Super Bowl XLV on the line, the Packers emerged victorious, 21-14, in the NFC Championship Game at Soldier Field.
The Packers have won nine of the last 11 meetings against the Bears (including playoffs). Chicago’s 27-20 win over the Packers in the first matchup of the 2013 season at Lambeau Field in Week 9 snapped Green Bay’s six-game winning streak against the Bears -- the Packers’ longest since a seven-game streak vs. Chicago from 2000-03.
Nine of the last 12 contests between the Packers and Bears (including postseason) have been decided by eight points or less, including the 2013 regular-season finale that Green Bay won by five to win the NFC North.
Including playoffs, the Packers have won four straight games at Soldier Field and five of the last six at the stadium. Green Bay has held Chicago to 20 points or less in six of the last seven games at Soldier Field.
Under Head Coach Mike McCarthy, the Packers are 11-6 against the Bears during the regular and postseason, including 6-3 on the road.
In all but one of the 11 wins under McCarthy, Green Bay has scored at least 20 points.
In the 12 seasons of the NFC North (2002-13), the Packers (seven) and Bears (three) have accounted for 10 division titles.
With Aaron Rodgers as the starting quarterback, Green Bay is 10-3 during the regular and postseason against the Bears, with one loss coming last season after Rodgers left the game with an injury after the first series.
The Packers and Bears last met on December 29th, 2013 at Soldier Field. The Packers won 33-28. That's when Green Bay clinched its third straight NFC North title with the win. Aaron Rodgers returned from an injury to complete 25 of 39 passes for 318 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions.
Bears Head Coach Marc Trestman is in his second year as the Bears 14th head coach. In his first season, the Bears offense set a franchise record -- with 6,109 net yards.
Something to look for during Sunday's game: Green Bay is one win away from becoming the second team in NFL history with 700 regular-season victories. The Packers (699-539-37) would join Chicago as the only teams to accomplish the feat.
Additionally, in eight career regular-season games against the Bears, Clay Matthews has 7.5 sacks -- the most he has recorded against any opponent.
