K-Rod's 300th save seals Brewers 2nd straight shutout of Braves

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Becoming only the 25th player in Major League Baseball history to earn his 300th save, Francisco Rodriguez left the mound at Miller Park Saturday a relieved man. Rodriguez pitched a scoreless 9th inning earning the save and help the Milwaukee Brewers blank the Atlanta Braves for a second straight day 2-0.

On Friday night, K-Rod helped set up a save by pitching a scoreless 8th inning. But on Saturday it was his turn to close out the game. He got a little help defensively when the first hitter he faced, Jordan Schafer hit a slow bouncer to Jean Segura, who barehanded the ball and fired to first for the first out. He then allowed a single to deep left to Andrelton Spencer, that was almost the second out when Segura threw behind him at first base. However, Spencer knocked the ball out of Juan Francisco's hand. Jason Heyward followed that with a line out to center field, setting up the ending Rodriguez had hoped for. K-Rod got Freddie Freeman swinging to end the game.

The Brewers had to lean on Donovan Hand before the game, giving the right-hander his first career start. He delivered 4.2 innings of work, not allowing a run and only giving up 2 hits in a no decision. Burke Badenhop came in to get the final out of the 5th inning to earn the win. The bullpen, which included Michael Gonzalez and John Axford, didn't allow a run over 5.1 innings of work.

Aramis Ramirez also nearly hit a major milestone on Saturday, He finished with 3 hits, leaving him 1 shy of career hit number 2000. His single to left in the 5th drove in the Brewers 2nd run of the game. Ramirez scored the 1st run in the 4th on a Francisco single.

On Sunday, the Brewers will go for the sweep of the Braves, who they've now beaten 8 straight times at Miller Park.
