Crews make last-minute preparations as Brewers set to play
MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- The Milwaukee Brewers open their season at Miller Park on Monday, April 1st -- taking on the Colorado Rockies. Crews are busy making last-minute preparations -- as the Brew Crew is set to take on the Chicago White Sox in their last Spring Training games.
"Not only is this week busy, but the whole month of March is really just finalizing the various projects that we've done around the ballpark," Teddy Werner with Brewers Operations said.
Two of those projects are in right field, which includes the newly renovated Dew Deck.
"We have about 250 people that will sit up here. It's an all-inclusive area, so the individuals that have tickets," Werner said.
One of the new features this year is the Mountain Dew rock climbing wall. It is the first indoor rock climbing wall in all of Major League baseball, and in all U.S. sports venues.
Crews have also added a scenic Miller Lite Party Deck that seats up to 70 people -- and the Skyy Lounge on the Club Level.
"We put in new furniture. We put in new flooring, new lighting. We got rid of the concession stand that was up there, so we've really expanded the space," Werner said.
As Brewers officials what's new in 2013, Forbes Magazine ranked the most valuable baseball franchises, and the Brewers are number 22. The Brewers organization didn't comment on the ranking, but said it's focused on enhancing the fan experience.
"Coming to a sporting event is more than just the action on the field. It's really an entertainment destination," Werner said.
As the 2013 Brewers season is set to begin, the Brewers are already planning for the future.
"One of the things we'll try to do during the season is visit some other ballparks and maybe even some basketball and hockey arenas," Werner said.
Fans will also see name changes to the Kid Zone and the Grand Slam Grill, which now have corporate sponsorships.
