Bucks center Larry Sanders out for approx. six weeks
MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Bucks center Larry Sanders underwent successful surgery on Monday afternoon, November 11th to repair a torn ligament in his right thumb, General Manager John Hammond announced. Sanders is expected to be out for approximately six weeks.
The surgery was performed by Dr. Curt Crimmins, a hand specialist, at the Orthopaedic Hospital of Wisconsin. Sanders will be sidelined for approximately six weeks and updates will be provided when available.
Sanders injured his thumb on Nov. 3 while involved in an off-court incident.
Sanders spoke out on Friday, November 8th for the first time since he was involved in an altercation at a Milwaukee nightclub.
After apologizing privately to his teammates, Sanders is reaching out to fans and asking for forgiveness.
“I offer my apologies to everyone,” said Sanders. “I put myself in a bad situation over the weekend.”
Police say a 26-year-old Sussex man told officers he was hit in the head with a bottle during an altercation at 720 in Milwaukee. The incident allegedly happened around 1 a.m. Sunday, November 3rd. According to the District Attorney’s Office, Sanders and several others were involved.
“He was very remorseful about what happened,” said Bucks Head Coach Larry Drew. “He knows it all starts with not getting himself into that position.”
Drew says he’s making it a point to regularly meet with Sanders to discuss the player’s “issues” including “things that are involved with basketball — things that are involved away from the field.”
Sanders recently signed a four-year, $44 million contract with the Bucks.
The DA’s Office has said it will not file criminal charges related to the nightclub incident.
