Brewers fall short against Cardinals, fall 4 games back

MILWAUKEE (WITI)--- Before the Milwaukee Brewers came to bat for the first time Thursday night, they were already behind. They never had the lead and dropped their 9th straight game, 3-2 to the St. Louis Cardinals.

Yadier Molina drove in two runs in the top of the first off of Brewers starter Wily Peralta. But Peralta would limit the damage to those 2 runs after getting out of a bases loaded jam. Jonathan Lucroy cut the lead in half with an RBI double in the bottom of the first.

But in the third, Peralta gave up an RBI single to Kameron Wong and the Cardinals led 3-1 until the 6th inning.

Rickie Weeks brought the Brewers back to within a run with a solo home run to center to lead off the 6th. The Brewers would threaten, but John Jay robbed Khris Davis of extra bases with 2 runners on when he ran down a long fly ball in right to end the inning.

A similar situation occurred in the 8th for the Brewers. Still down 3-2, they had 2 runners on with one out. But Logan Schaffer's long fly ball to center was caught by Peter Bourjos. The Brewers wouldn't score that inning either.

One more Brewers rally came up short in the 9th inning. With 2 on and 2 out, pinch hitter Jason Rogers popped out to end the game.

The Brewers are now 4 games behind St. Louis in the National League Central.
