Raise the bar: Registered dietitian helps you choose a healthier booze

MILWAUKEE -- If you're looking to indulge, what is the best alcoholic drink? Is there such a thing as a healthier drink? Our registered dietitian Lisa Grudzielanek with Your Tasty Life joins Real Milwaukee to answer those questions.

Best Drink: Wine
• Red wine 120 calories per 5 oz.
• White wine 110 calories per 5oz.
• Antioxidants in red wine can protect the heart and reduce cholesterol levels

Runner Up: Drink Hard Liquor with Low-Cal Mixer
• 1 shot on average contains 100 calories
• Hard liquors provide more calories from alcohol than from carbs & sugar
• Juices, syrups, mixes and soda are sugar-bombs and boost the 'unhealthy' quotient
• Stick with low-calorie mixers like seltzer/club soda, splash of juice, lime juice, mineral water, lemon or lime wedges to boost flavor

Light Beer is Healthier than Ale, Lagers, Ciders and Malt Beverages
• Most beer high in calories and carbs- like a slice of bread in each glass
• Light beer, 'lighter' choice if limiting to one or two

Worst: Ale, Lagers, Cider, Malt Beverage and 'Fruity' Drinks
• The majority of ciders & flavored malt beverage are loaded with sugar
• Ales on average 175, Ciders 200, Malt beverages 230+ calories per bottle
• Frozen margaritas & Pina coladas easily 500+ calories
